5150 Sheet - An Aggregated Journal of Culture & Appeal

5150 Sheet is an independent, aggregated online journal of culture, human interest, and appeal. The journal publishes editorial comment, essay, review, interview, poetry, and other writing apropos the experience and struggles of poor, marginalized, and restless populations.

The journal’s name is taken from section 5150 of California’s Welfare and Institutions Code, which allows eligible clinicians to place an “involuntary psychiatric hold” on persons deemed dangerous to themselves or others. Thus 5150 Sheet refers directly to the documentation required to involuntarily commit an individual, although here the title is meant to be ironic, given the content (documentation) of the journal itself, which one might say seeks to commit, involuntary, rouge institutional structures under a heading of their own creation.

5150 Sheet is published from Seattle, Washington and receives regular editorial contributions from New York City, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Vancouver BC.
