Atticus Books is a small literary press based in Kensington, Md., a close-in Washington, D.C., suburb.
We specialize in genre-busting literary fiction—i.e., titles that fall between the cracks of genre fiction and compelling narratives that feature memorable main characters. We publish books and regularly post original short stories, poems, literary essays and creative non-fiction on our website.
Our purpose on earth is to help lead independent publishing into a new era of book and content creation (not merely print production and extinction). Moreover, we intend to follow in the spirit and tradition of offbeat literary dynamos such as New Directions, Grove, and Black Sparrow Press.
Atticus Books humbly strives to be “a small, good thing” in the literary landscape. If you admire the author of the short story from which we liberated that phrase (Raymond Carver), then we indeed are of like mind and spirit.
