Joy Mulumba was born and raised in the DR Congo. His mother's political activism led to threats against his family, forcing them to relocate to United States in 2004. Joy initially enrolled in the Pre-Med program, but later majored in English, attaining his Master's degree from Portland State University in 2012. In addition to establishing himself as a writer, Joy intends to become a college professor, and he will one day open a library in the Congo for children who have a passion for reading but don't have access to books.
